Overview

This position is directly responsible for the day-to-day management of all environmental and operating permit compliance at DPIs Alpena facility.  In this capacity, the incumbent has a dotted line of accountability to the Alpena Plant Manager.  In addition, after assimilating into the role, the incumbent will lead and direct the compliance related activities and efforts of the Health & Safety Manager at Alpena and Environmental, Health and Safety Supervisor at Toledo.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Keep company’s senior management fully aware and up to date on any environmental compliance issues, provide recommended corrective actions, implement and manage.
  2. Establish and communicate environmental policy and procedures in conjunction with senior management.
  3. Ensure the company operates safely and responsibly in our communities.
  4. Reinforce the Company’s environmental commitment to compliant manufacturing operations.
  5. Work cooperatively with regulatory agencies, public officials and communities to manifest mutual concern for health, safety and the environment while maintaining a viable business financially.
  6. Monitor and participate in state rule making to provide plant environmental guidance to the DEQ and other relevant regulatory entities.
  7. Oversee compliance with federal and state environmental laws and regulations.
  8. Ensure corrective action programs for environmental audit findings.
  9. Assist business teams in developing environmental strategic business objectives.
  10. Lead development and implementation of current/emerging environmental programs.
  11. Manage utilization and cost of legal and environmental consultants required for testing, reporting and other compliance issues.
  12. Hire, train, and manage the performance of environmental, health and safety staff.
  13. Recommend budget and manage actual spending on environmental, health and safety compliance costs.
  14. Provide timely information and participation in Business Team decisions.
  15. Ensure that environmental, health & safety personnel follow safe work procedures.
  16. Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
  17. Perform other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

 

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.
Advanced degree or formal training in compliance related fields a plus.
 

Experience
Minimum 5 years environmental control experience in a manufacturing environment with 3 years management experience

 

 

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
Ability to effectively manage relationship with environmental regulatory and enforcement personnel.
Ability to work in team environment.
Ability to operate a computer and supporting software.
Driver’s license required.
Knowledge of company products.
Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations.
Knowledge of general forestry principles and skills.
Knowledge of current supervisory and management techniques.
Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
