    The SR. HR & Labor Specialist is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization's human resources by implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices in compliance with LWTA corporate HR policies and guidelines.  The role is physically located at DPIs Alpena plant.

    Responsibilities

    • Labor Management: Hear and manage employee grievances; counseling employees and supervisors. Maintains union/grievance steps documentation.
    • Maintains job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
    • Maintains hourly manpower: job bids, recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; coaching managers on candidate selection
    • Prepares employees for assignments by conducting orientation and training programs.
    • Ensures compliance of  hourly employee appraisals work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees
    • Maintains all employee benefits programs, open enrollment, processing of benefit claims and conducting educational programs.
    • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings.
    • Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
    • Maintains historical human resource records utilizing a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records.
    • Perform weekly safety audits in assigned area; Attends monthly site safety training.
    • Support the plant initiatives: wellness, events, recognition, employee data, monthly reports

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience required; Advanced degree preferred
    • Minimum of 5 years of human resources experience in a large manufacturing environment preferred
    • Strong experience in three or more of the following areas: human resources management, organizational development, change management, process improvement, compensation, staffing, and employee relations.
    • Labor Relations & Collective Bargaining experience is required
    • Experience in culture transformation is desired
    • Handling sensitive issues with diplomacy and demonstrating respect for people from all backgrounds
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of required processes and laws for legal and corporate compliance
