    We are looking for an in-house Patent Agent to provide support to the Assistant General Counsel of IP. Ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the Company's growing patent portfolio.


    American Standard is a leading North American plumbing and building products manufacturer. The Company produces high performing fixtures, stylish faucets and sinks, plus whirlpool tubs and other wellness products for the bath and kitchen.


    American Standard operates under the business unit LIXIL Water Technology, which is the world’s largest and most global leader in sanitaryware. This division operates in 50 countries, managing 50 production facilities and two R&D centers globally.     • Manage global patent portfolio by providing instruction and management of outside US counsel and foreign counsel on various patent matters, in addition to independently preparing, filing and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office and coordinating with foreign associates
    • Work closely with R&D to identify and articulate opportunities for patent protection; and develop, advocate, and implement patent strategies
    • Align patent strategy with business goals
    • Manage patent portfolio budget
    • Proactively seek and implement cost saving measures without compromising quality or patent scope
    • Coordinate execution and submission of various formal documents globally
    • Maintain accurate patent docketing system and electronic filing room database
    • Perform patentability and freedom-to-operate searches, patent due diligence for transactional or business matters, perform publication clearance reviews
    • Effectively communicate with IP colleagues, businesses and R&D colleagues in US, Germany, Japan and other global sites at all levels in the organization, regarding patent matters, departmental and overall patent processes, and to proactively address other concerns
    • Assist IP Counsel with infringement analysts, various patent projects and department projects and initiatives


    • A bachelor’s degree (and preferably an advanced degree) in engineering (preferably mechanical engineering) or related discipline

    • Registered patent agent

    • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience

    • Demonstrated experience in examining or preparing and prosecuting patent applications (utility and preferably design)

    • Excellent writing and research abilities are a must, as well as proficiency in written and verbal communication, and strong organizational skills

    • Self-driven and able to work independently
