  • Overview

    The Senior Cost Accountant works closely with the plant Cost Accounting Manager to understand plant performance and helps achieve operational excellence. It is responsible for the analysis and review of general ledger activities to ensure data quality and accuracy, and for the plant accounts payable processes. 


    This position requires a high level of knowledge in accounting, reporting and analysis. Effective and clear communication skills, analytical capabilities and a drive to succeed are required. In depth knowledge of our Financial Systems and internal controls is required.


    • Assist the Cost Accounting Manager with the day-to-day, monthly and year-end operations of the Accounting/ Finance Department including plant spending and budget review and analysis.
    • Ensure timely completion of the month end close process by completing assigned work and assisting others as needed to meet deadlines.
    • Analyze General Ledger activity to identify data quality issues and to ensure all postings related to the plant activity are accurate and in compliance with internal policies and controls. 
    • Preparation of accrual entries required at month and year end to ensure accuracy of revenue and expenses.
    • Perform monthly SAP SOD analysis and security controls with IT team.
    • Participates in annual budget process and monitors monthly “budget versus actual” performance, providing timely explanations of variances between actual results and forecasts/budgets.
    • Collaborate with finance corporate team to verify accuracy of books and records.
    • Prepare audit work papers for internal and external auditors.
    • Be able to explain work papers provided, procedures followed and internal controls applied.
    • Recommend updates to desktop procedures and process flows as part of best practice of maintaining current documentation.
    • Continuously challenge current processes as the business evolves to suggest and implement improvements in policy, procedure and systems. 
    • Assesses performance trends and proposes corrective measures in the case of deterioration related to KPIs and in support of continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Through process confirmation verify implementation and monitoring effectiveness of solutions.
    • Participate in worldwide sharing of best practices; including developing/documenting cost accounting policy and internal controls.
    • Collaborates with Cost Accounting Manager in preparing the weekly/monthly facility financial reporting package. 
    • Works closely to ensure that fixed asset and inventory records for the plant processing facility are accurate, up-to-date, and relevant.

    • Other accounting or financial tasks as required by the Cost Accounting Manager.


    This position requires excellent analytical and negotiation skills, experience in a manufacturing, cost accounting, and the ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

    Technical competencies:

      • BS in Accounting
      • Full understanding of accounting systems and procedures
      • Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting methods and concepts
      • Extensive experience with SAP
      • Strong computer skills (MS Office)
